Good therapy starts with real human connection.

At North Shore Mental Health Services, we believe meaningful therapy begins with feeling safe enough to be fully yourself.

We offer inclusive, trauma-informed therapy for individuals, couples, families, and teens in Duluth. Our approach is collaborative, relational, and grounded in authentic human connection – because lasting change happens when people feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported.

Therapy should feel human.

We know therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if previous experiences left you feeling disconnected, judged, or misunderstood.

At NSMHS, we strive to create therapy that feels approachable, collaborative, and grounded in real life. Our therapists bring warmth, curiosity, authenticity, compassion and sometimes even a little bit of humor into the therapy room because meaningful change happens when people feel comfortable showing up honestly and being fully themselves.

We see our clients as whole people — not diagnoses, labels, or problems to fix.

Built on care – for clients and clinicians.

North Shore Mental Health Services was built on the belief that therapists provide better care when they are genuinely supported themselves.

Too often, mental health care becomes centered around productivity, overloaded schedules, and burnout. We wanted to create a practice where therapists have the time, balance, and support needed to be fully present for the people they work with.

That commitment extends to how we care for our clients. We are an anti-racist, body-positive, sexuality and gender-affirming practice committed to creating therapy that feels respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

We proudly support LGBTQIA+ individuals, neurodivergent clients, BIPOC communities, and people exploring identity, gender, relationships, and sexuality. Our goal is simple: to create a space where people feel welcomed, respected, and able to show up fully as themselves.

Meet Our Team

We’re a small team with a wide range of personalities, specialties, perspectives, and lived experiences.

Each therapist brings something different into the therapy room, and that’s intentional. We want clients to find someone they genuinely connect with, because the right therapeutic relationship matters.

Whether you’re looking for support around trauma, anxiety, identity exploration, relationships, neurodivergence, or life transitions, we encourage you to explore our therapist profiles and find the person who feels like the best fit for you.

As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor I work with clients who are varied across gender, age, ethnicity, religious, and sexual orientations. I’m a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth and Adler Graduate School with a master’s degree in Adlerian Psychotherapy. My background includes extensive work in the field of eating disorders as well as chemical dependency and experience working in the LGBTQIA+ community. Since my move back to Duluth in 2014 I’ve broadened my practice to encompass more general mental health issues in addition to my specialty work. I work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and general life obstacles including job changes, parenting, and loss. I am also trained in both level 1 IFS and EMDR. I work from a feminist lens that focuses on gender and how the mental health of women-identified folks has been impacted by bias and oppression. I am passionately HAES® aligned and anti-diet and love working with people ready to confront their relationship with diet culture.

In my free time I’m a lover of nature, animals, my family, the awesome city of Duluth and the Minnesota northland. I have two children who teach me more about life than I’ve ever learned from a book. I am a registered yoga instructor and enjoy working on my own practice as well as bringing those philosophies into my therapy work.

I believe you deserve a life of balance, connection, and joy. I enjoy working with adults from varying backgrounds who are looking to feel supported and heard. My work focuses on finding inherent strengths that lead individuals to the best versions of themselves in a world full of uncertainty. Clients I serve often struggle to adjust to life changes, depression, anxiety, traumatic memories, grief, and gender identity.

In sessions with me you can expect to learn how to cope with life’s challenges, an exploration of how patterns were established, and support in identifying things about yourself you would like to challenge and others you would like to enhance. And likely you’ll laugh some as I believe laughter has its place in the therapy process.

I believe the therapist-client relationship is a partnership in which I walk beside you to help you see your path towards a more content life with the necessary healing. Ultimately my focus is to assist you with meeting your goals and helping you develop the life and connections you are seeking.

I look forward to having the opportunity to connect with you and assist in propelling your life forward.

I come here believing this: the relationship we have with ourselves is the center of how we show up in the world and experience all aspects of life. It’s quite common that we all could use some repair with this relationship from time to time. I work with young adults and any individuals who are struggling with understanding who they are and where they fit into the world. This may include difficulties with depression, anxiety, interpersonal/family conflicts, trauma, adjustments towards change in life and stress. You can leave therapy better understanding yourself, equipped with internal and external resources, and feel more capable.

An internal family systems approach is used to help someone better understand all of who they are and why they might remain stuck in ways of thinking, feeling and reacting. When we learn to befriend all of who we are, we engage with ourselves, others, and the world in a more compassionate, curious and confident way. I will teach you how to do this.

It is my hope that I can cultivate a safe space where one can reconnect with their inherent strength, learn new ways of coping with discomfort, and generate a more desirable way of existing with themselves, others and the world. You can always expect me to bring my humanness, silliness and all to the process. Come pull up a chair (or screen) and join me!

She/Her

Since 2007 I’ve worked with individuals who experience co-occurring disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-worth and challenges adjusting to life changes.  I use strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Strength Based Therapies.  I carry a Humanistic philosophy in connecting with others, which are the core skills of listening, reflection and focusing on a person’s positive potential.

In my years creating a therapeutic setting for individuals and groups what I’ve enjoyed most is getting to know their authentic self, the side they may keep hidden from others. While the reduction or acceptance of distress is a focus of therapy, so is the process of learning how to appreciate and be kind to yourself.  Therapy isn’t about becoming a different person, it’s about finding confidence and comfort with being your full, present self.

I have a strong passion for work related to diversity and equity.  I value creating space for individuals and groups to reflect upon their own bias and the impact this bias has in their lives.  My professional work in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion started in 2011 with facilitating organizational and group trainings.  I am committed to continuing anti-racist work within the field of mental health and therapy.

My outside of work interests include my own anti-racist journey, going to local estate sales, singing loudly in the car and exploring national parks and theme parks.  I try, every day, to raise a confident, socially aware and kind daughter.  I value being a community member in Duluth and look forward to helping to decrease the distress while promoting mental wellness of my fellow community members.

She/Her

Hey there, I am Savannah! Welcome to North Shore Mental Health Services! I am glad you are here! Life can be a roller coaster. At times we stick our arms in the air enjoying the ride, and other times, we close our eyes and get scared. This shows how difficult and scary our journey through life can be. As a therapist and as a human being, I want you to feel welcomed, safe, and heard. Everyone has their own unique story. Our stories are what makes us who we are. You are truly the expert of your own life, and I will walk alongside you, listen with empathy, and meet you where you are at. You do not have to face it alone. Let’s ride this roller coaster together!

I value the importance of creating a non-judgemental, open space where everyone can share their vulnerabilities, struggles, resiliency, and stories. I will come forward with kindness, support, and care. This will be a collaborative experience together, with you, and your family. We can only change if we are ready to change. Change is truly a scary thing. I want to help normalize these scary feelings together.

I am passionate about working with those who are dealing with transitions and changes in their lives whether that means with individuals, families, couples, children, adolescents, or adults. These transitions may look like grief and loss, transitioning to college, or others. Humans are meant to be connected to their inner-being and those around them. Diane Gehart said, “Being connected to other people – listening and being heard – allows us to remember who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.” In this therapeutic space, we will work together to empower who you are becoming.

I graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and am currently working towards licensure under supervision. I am a certified facilitator through the Prepare & Enrich program that focuses on helping couples build strong and resilient relationships. When I am not practicing therapy, I love to hike, go horseback riding, and explore new things with my husband. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story

One of my long-standing goals has always been to work with individuals in the Twin Ports area (Duluth and Superior). I began my career on the Fond du Lac reservation, and it was always a personal aspiration of mine to return and support individuals with their mental health. Although I won’t be relocating up north anytime soon, I’m still able to provide excellent care through telehealth.

I take a holistic approach to my clients and employ a collaborative, person-centered methodology to assist them in uncovering, exploring, and gaining insight into their lives. My ultimate aim is to reduce their stress and help them attain a profound sense of wellness. I firmly believe that empathy, compassion, a sense of humor, creativity, and unwavering support can empower people to gain confidence in themselves as complete individuals. My mission revolves around helping clients enhance their relationships with themselves and their inner experiences.

Diversity and inclusion hold a special place in my heart, and I am deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, safe environment for all individuals, irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation, political affiliation, race, ethnicity, religious or spiritual background, or any other factors. I particularly find fulfillment in supporting and collaborating with LGBTQ and transgender individuals of all ages.

I provide therapy for individuals grappling with various challenges, including relationship conflicts, ADHD, Autism, LBGTQ+ relationships,  anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, schizophrenia, personality disorders, mood disorders, attachment trauma, survivors of complex trauma, and adjustment disorders. To address these issues, I draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities, including art therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, feminist therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness skills. I also provide sex-positive therapy and support individuals in non-traditional relationships. I take great pleasure in working with a wide range of people, with a particular focus on young adults and adults who identify as LGBTQ, transgender, or neurodivergent. Together, we can navigate the complexities of your unique journey toward mental health and personal growth.

Outside of my professional life, I’ve been a professional, award-winning artist for nearly a decade and have showcased my art in exhibitions across the country. My creative pursuits encompass oil painting, acrylic painting, encaustic painting, yoga, jewelry making, sketching, and other art forms. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, watching Star Wars, creating artwork, and exploring the Twin Cities with my partner, as well as spending quality time with my beloved cats.

Embarking on a journey of change can feel overwhelming, yet it offers profound opportunities for growth and healing. As a therapist, I provide support, insight, and tools to help individuals navigate transformation with resilience and self-discovery. I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience, allowing clients to explore their emotions, challenges, and strengths in a safe and affirming space.

With a master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from Southwestern College-Santa Fe and certification in human sexuality, I take a holistic, trauma-informed, and person-centered approach. I have extensive experience working with diverse populations, including at-risk youth, individuals in addiction recovery, and survivors of abuse. My specialties include relationship dynamics, intimacy, sexuality, and gender exploration. I am passionate about helping clients cultivate self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and develop a greater sense of empowerment.

For those drawn to creative expression, I integrate art therapy to facilitate deeper insight and healing. Artistic skill isn’t required—just a willingness to explore and express oneself authentically. Creativity can be a powerful tool for processing emotions and uncovering new perspectives, offering an alternative to traditional talk therapy. My goal is to provide a space where clients feel free to engage with their emotions in a way that feels natural and meaningful to them.

Beyond my work, I find balance and inspiration in nature through hiking, paddleboarding, and swimming. These experiences, along with my passion for creative expression, ground me and shape my therapeutic approach. Traveling full-time in my RV allows me to embrace change and adaptability—values I encourage in my clients as they navigate their own personal growth.

Hi there. Hola!

I believe that incredible healing can happen within the context of supportive relationships, and that’s the foundation of the therapy space that I provide. I strive to provide clients with a place where they feel seen, heard, and validated. I connect with clients as a team to process their past, navigate present life, and move towards an intentional future they’ve hoped for.

I embrace the fact that all people have good within them. At times, we’ve all faced moments where that goodness feels buried under other actions or emotions. I seek the goodness in others and incline them towards seeing it within themselves. A goal I hold is to offer clients a space where they can show up authentically. One way I do this is by being authentically myself and maintaining a calm and regulated nervous system to create a safe space for clients.

I focus my practice on working with adults and teens who are seeking treatment for trauma, facing struggles with depression, grief, identity, anxiety, parenting issues, relationship issues, mood disorders, and a variety of other challenges. In doing so, I draw on many interventions and modalities that are client centered, mindfulness based, and connect thoughts and emotions to the behaviors and patterns we find ourselves in.

Outside of the office, I am often outside and have found a new hobby in sitting next to Lake Superior. Being in nature feeds my soul and restores me. I’m a wife and a mother, and I am continually doing my own work and healing journey to show up as the best version of myself. I’m a recent transplant to northern Minnesota, and I’m enjoying getting to know the area and people who live here!

Rooted in the North Shore community.

Most of our therapists live here, hike here, and love this area for the same reasons many of our clients do.

There’s something about Duluth and the North Shore — the lake, the seasons, and the strong sense of community — that shapes the way many people experience connection, stress, restoration, and belonging.

We’re proud to be part of this community and honored to receive referrals through word of mouth, local physicians, organizations like Trans Northland, and fellow community providers throughout the region.

We’re part of this community, not just a business operating within it.

Whether you’re navigating a difficult season, feeling disconnected from yourself, exploring identity, working through trauma, or simply wanting life to feel different, therapy can create space for greater clarity, healthier patterns, and a deeper connection to yourself.

We’re here to meet you with compassion, authenticity, and care.
