Therapy that meets you where you are.
At North Shore Mental Health Services, we provide inclusive, affirming therapy in Duluth for individuals, couples, families, and teens navigating anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, relationships, depression, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.
Our therapists focus on creating care that feels approachable, individualized, and rooted in real conversation.
Sessions are available in-person in downtown Duluth and online across Minnesota & Wisconsin.

“Being healed doesn’t mean becoming the best version of yourself, it means allowing the worst versions of yourself to also receive love.”
You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.
Therapy can help you better understand your patterns, navigate challenges with more support, and feel more connected to yourself and your life again.
Our approach adapts to each person’s needs, experiences, and goals.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is the primary focus of our practice and the area where we place the most emphasis on helping clients find the right therapeutic fit. One-on-one therapy creates space to explore your experiences, relationships, emotions, identity, and patterns in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
Some clients come to therapy during periods of crisis or transition. Others arrive with a harder-to-name feeling that something simply does not feel sustainable anymore.
Individual therapy can help with:
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Depression and low mood
- Trauma and PTSD
- Burnout and emotional exhaustion
- Identity exploration
- Gender questioning and LGBTQIA+ related support
- Neurodivergence
- Relationship challenges
- Life transitions and uncertainty
- Grief and loss
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Self-esteem and self-understanding
You do not need to have the “right words” before coming to therapy.

“You didn’t know what you didn’t know”
How we work: our therapeutic approaches.
Our therapists are trained in a range of evidence-based and relational modalities. The right therapeutic relationship and approach depend on who you are, what you’re experiencing, and what feels supportive and effective for you.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
An evidence-based therapy that helps clients process distressing experiences and shift emotional responses, often in a shorter time frame.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
A highly researched, body-based approach for processing trauma and distressing memories that continue to feel emotionally or physically “stuck.”
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
A therapeutic model focused on understanding the different “parts” of ourselves with greater compassion, curiosity, and awareness.
Play Therapy
Developmentally supportive therapy for children and younger adolescents using play as a natural form of communication and expression.
Somatic Therapy
An approach that incorporates the nervous system and body into the therapeutic process, recognizing that stress and trauma are often held physically as well as emotionally.
Art Therapy
Uses creative expression as a therapeutic tool for processing emotions, experiences, and internal patterns in nonverbal ways.
Who we work especially well with.
We are a strong fit for individuals looking for therapy that feels thoughtful, supportive, and genuinely connected — especially those navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, identity exploration, neurodivergence, relationship challenges, or previous therapy experiences that did not feel fully supportive.
While we support a wide range of mental health concerns, we may not be the best fit for clients requiring higher levels of care such as inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment. When needed, we will help connect clients with appropriate additional resources and support.
Reviews
“I have been a client of North Shore Mental Health for a few years. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! As someone with no previous therapy experience, it has been the breath of fresh air I’ve needed. I am cared for gently, challenged when needed, and encouraged to care for myself with grace and kindness.”
“Over the years, my therapist has helped me address living with high sensitivity and high anxiety in a not so sensitive world – no easy feat. She is trained in a variety of modalities and constantly weaves practical (and brilliant) connections and takeaways into our sessions. Her dynamic approach has been so much more helpful (and human) than the by-the-book CBT therapy of my past. In the age of big box provider driven care, finding a provider who sees you fully, care for you as a whole person is akin to winning the lottery. I feel immensely lucky to have landed at North Shore Mental Health Services. Their office door number 911 – and let me tell you, they are life savers.”
“Following some stressful life changes, I sought out help with NSMHS for my anxiety symptoms. Megan’s consistently calm and thoughtful approach to therapy and her skill in prompting introspection have been invaluable in this process. Megan provides a safe space for me to learn both how to manage my anxiety symptoms and to get curious about larger patterns in how I show up in the world. I know myself better for having worked with Megan, and it has been an immensely rewarding experience.”
