Your First Appointment

I get that showing up to your first therapy appointment can be nerve-wracking. Many clients prefer to have a quick phone chat or to send a few emails to make sure North Shore Mental Health Services is the right fit for them, and I’m more than happy to answer any questions you have before your first appointment.

I recommend coming to your first appointment 5-10 minutes early to get a head start on paperwork. If I’m still with a client I’ll make sure to have the paperwork available for you in the waiting room so you can get started right away. The paperwork is for both insurance and psychological assessment purposes. Please bring your insurance card and if you’re under 18 years of age we’ll need a parent present to give their consent as well.

During your first appointment we’ll cover reasons you’re seeking services and any pertinent information you think I should be aware of. I try to get a thorough overview of what’s going on while gathering as much information as possible. The more I get to know you the better help I can be. This is also a time where you can ask any questions about my practice and therapeutic approach that you may have.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to feel a connection with your therapist, and sometimes it can take a few appointments to feel settled. If you know there are things about therapy that work or don’t work for you please don’t hesitate to let me know.

If you have any questions or concerns going into your first appointment please feel free to call, text, or email me. I look forward to meeting you!
